Timmy Gambin is a maritime archaeologist and Professor in the Department of Classics and Archaeology at the University of Malta. He also serves as Head of the Underwater Cultural Heritage Unit at Heritage Malta and leads the Master Program in Global Maritime Archaeology. With over 20 years of experience, Prof. Gambin specializes in deep-water shipwrecks beneath Maltese waters, ranging from ancient vessels to World War II-era submarines, ships, and aircraft—many of which he has discovered or extensively studied. He has directed underwater surveys across the Mediterranean, including in Spain, Italy, and Croatia, but his passion remains focused on World War II wrecks.

HMS Urge was a U-Class submarine initially built for training purposes. The increasing demand for more armed submarines during World War II saw HMS Urge being fitted with torpedo tubes and made operational for combat.
