GARGANO NATIONAL PARK
A JOURNEY BETWEEN HISTORY, MYTH AND BREATHTAKING VIEWS

May 24-30, 2024

The Gargano National Park (UNESCO site) is a promontary, a varied territory rich in biodiversity, landscapes of immeasurable beauty, devotional sanctuaries located along the ancient Via Francigena of the South, forests where you can appreciate centuries-old trees that give the sensation of wanting to embrace the white and diamond sky of the whole Territory, the "green sea" sung by Gabriele D'Annunzio, welcoming beaches, genuine food, local cuisine linked to the tradition of peasant civilization. The best way to discover the Gargano (and its National Park) is trekking. On foot to discover places, people, stories and cultures. The profile of the relief is not accentuated, but the geomorphology is anything but flat due to the karst which takes the form of a multitude of incised valleys, deep sinkholes and numerous caves, a privileged place of many myths. It is precisely around the caves that the myths of the Calcante oracle and Podalirio were intertwined, resulting in the devotion towards the Archangel Michael, who has his sanctuary in a cave. Also in the caves are the early Christian necropolises of Merino and Monte Pucci; while hundreds of sea caves with the most bizarre shapes and names dot the coast from north to south, surrounded by stacks and natural arches.
