Dive Into History 360
A UNIQUE EVENT ON MONDAY, 17 NOVEMBER AT 6 PM
FORTIFICATIONS INTERPRETATION CENTRE, VALLETTA
We are delighted to offer a unique event
“Dive Into History 360”
a lecture and a Virtual Reality session by
Prof. Timmy Gambin.

Timmy Gambin is a maritime archaeologist and Professor in the Department of Classics and Archaeology at the University of Malta. He also serves as Head of the Underwater Cultural Heritage Unit at Heritage Malta and leads the Master Program in Global Maritime Archaeology. With over 20 years of experience, Prof. Gambin specializes in deep-water shipwrecks beneath Maltese waters, ranging from ancient vessels to World War II-era submarines, ships, and aircraft — many of which he has discovered or extensively studied. He has directed underwater surveys across the Mediterranean, including in Spain, Italy, and Croatia, but his passion remains focused on World War II wrecks.
At 55m below sea level at Benghajsa Point, south-west of Marsaxlokk, lies the wreck of a B-24 American Liberator. This American bomber was one of 50 used to carry out airstrikes over Reggio Calabria during the Second World War. Join the Underwater Cultural Heritage Unit for a lecture delivered by Prof Timmy Gambin on the discovery of the B24 in Maltese waters as well as an in-depth look into the research and technology used to understand the B24’s history and demise. Virtually explore the historic wreck of the B24 through an immersive VR experience and dive beneath our sea in 360°

This lecture will be at the Fortification Interpretation Centre in St Mark Street, Valletta, at 6 pm sharp
